Patri are sacred Hindu amulets, icons of magic and myth, of alchemic and yogic power and talismans of protection. They serve as a tangible connection to the image and its meaning.

Shiva is known as the “destroyer and transformer”. As one of the supreme deities of the Hindu trinity, he creates, protects and destroys the universe. Regarded as the patron of yoga, meditation and arts he is a force of energy and creative power. Shiva is depicted in many forms but perhaps most famously as the Nataraja, or “Lord of Dance”. His dance is said to mark destruction but also transition from one stage to another.

Bhumiya Raj, known as the “ghost king”, is described as being a great war chieftain who died defending his property and his village’s people. However, never based on one unique individual, each village is said to have their own specific Bhumiya Raj. According to Hindu tradition, he rides on horseback late at night warding off enemies and evil spirits.
