Style is Ageless

Style is Ageless

why we shouldn’t fear being bold as we get older

Changes come with age and our taste in fashion is no exception. The older we get the more we convince ourselves that our style has to be subdued. We shift to simpler pieces – more basic colors. We move away from bold style choices, even though we all know that with age women only become bolder. Our style should reflect the confidence and independence that develop as we age.

Many pieces in my collection feature simple colors but I am always drawn to making pieces with bright colors, big stones, and interesting combinations. These are the pieces that are seen as “too fun” or “too young” for many of my clients. I don’t blame them, the age rule is an easy one to get caught up in but getting older doesn’t mean we become less fun. Our age should never be an excuse not to wear beautiful things. Our taste in fashion may change but too many of us shop for our age instead of ourselves.

There are various ways to break away from plainness while still maintaining elegant simplicity. A necklace can be made up of basic black stones but mix in marbled agate and the necklace changes. For a bolder look, a necklace can be made with simple cream stones but end in a powerful pendant. Bright colors are also an easy way to take a step away from the ordinary. Your first step doesn’t need to be straight to a bright rainbow stranded necklace – you can start with a mix of subtle yellows or deep greens.

It is not as hard as you would think to incorporate more excitement into your jewelry. You can start by adding pieces that pair with the ones you have now. Your modest pieces don’t need to become things of the past. They can act as a foundation for your bold pieces to create new combinations for every day.

We may not be getting any younger but we certainly don’t have to get any older in spirit. We all have too much boldness in us not to wear bright colors, big pendants and fun combinations.
